What is Hempcrete?
Hempcrete is a bio-composite material made from the inner woody core of the hemp plant mixed with a lime-based binder. It is used as a sustainable alternative to traditional building materials replacing toxic insulation used in traditional builds.
Lower Carbon
Hempcrete is significantly more sustainable than traditional building supplies. It requires fewer resources to produce, generates less greenhouse gas emissions, and has a lower carbon footprint.
Durability
Hempcrete is more durable than traditional building methods because of its monolithic build. Having great hygroscopic properties along with a high alkaline mixture, hempcrete will have antifungal properties creating a mold free environment. Along with being fire resistant hemp homes will not burn down.
Energy Savings
Hempcrete can also save homeowners money in the long run. Its thermal mass matched with a R 2-3 per inch will keep your hemp home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter by regulating the humidity and the thermal mass can absorb heat during the day in winter time and re-radiates the warmth back into your hemp home through out the night
